RAMPANT Rob Roy got the new season off to a bright start with a fantastic 5-2 victory over rivals Kilsyth Rangers last night (Monday).
The match at Duncansfield was part of the Euroscot Eng Sectional League Cup.
It was 1-1 at half-time. Man of the match was Ryan Deas.
Rob Roy ended their pre-season action undefeated with a draw against lower league opponents Glencairn on Saturday.
The swirling wind made life difficult for both sides, but it was the Kirkintilloch visitors who grabbed the lead in the 13th minute with a well-worked goal.
Carter passed inside to Sawyer, who turned his marker before squaring the ball to Deas, who sent a low effort past Glens keeper Bell.
The Rutherglen side came back strongly, with Donnache’s effort pushed wide at his post by McKinven and Muir’s 25-yard shot taken confidently by the Rabs keeper.
Glencairn pushed forward in search of the equaliser with McKay’s 22 yard free-kick taken high by McKinven and Cumming sending an overhead kick narrowly past.
A minute before the break Sawyer had a goal-bound effort blocked.
Deas had a 25-yard free-kick deflected for a corner with McLeod’s kick headed clear.
The hour mark signalled a flurry of substitutions from the Rob Roy bench. Glencairn’s equaliser was only delayed a minute – from a McKay cross Cumming crashed a header against the Rabs upright then followed up by squeezing the ball home in at the near post.
Glencairn then went all out for the winner, but the game ended 1-1.
This Saturday (August 10) Rossvale take on Rob Roy in the Euroscot Eng Sectional League Cup at Petershill Park, kick-off at 2pm.
Then on Monday, in the same competition, Rabs host Cumbernauld United – kick-off at 6.45pm.
