IT was a good weekend for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy as they triumphed away to Dyce in the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup.

Rob Roy overcame a potentially hazardous encounter against North Region Superleague side Dyce Juniors to coast into Round 2 of The Emirates Scottish Junior Cup, with striker David Gormley firing home a hat-trick.
Rabs got off to a dream start when – with barely a minute on the clock – the home defence failed to deal with a cross from the right, giving Michael Fulton time and space to slam the ball past keeper Barney from a few yards out.
Dyce responded immediately and should have equalised, but Robertson shot wide when in a good scoring position.
The visitors piled on the pressure, with Gormley’s effort from distance taken under the bar by Barney. Carter drove wide then a McAleenan free-kick flashed across the goalmouth. The midfielder sent an 18-yard drive over the bar following a Gormley corner kick.
Rabs were looking dangerous and their sustained pressure on an uneasy looking home defence paid off in the 24th minute when Fulton released David Gormley in the penalty box. The striker took a couple of deft touches before sending the ball into the back of the net to put the Adamslie Park side two ahead.
Dyce pulled a goal back in the 26th minute when Steven Bartlet took advantage of a Mackay error to fire in a low shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
The goal gave the North side confidence with Murray driving over the bar.
Gormley had the ball in the net in the 34th minute only to be denied by the offside flag then a minute later Mackie’s snap-shot clattered the upright.
Gormley made it 3-1 in the Rabs’ favour in the 36th minute, with an 18-yard strike.
Then two minutes before the interval Dyce again grabbed a lifeline when Rabs conceded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Bartlet’s poorly-struck free-kick was deflected past the unsighted home keeper Robertson into the net.
Mackie should have scored in first-half stoppage time but sent his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.
Dyce began the second half showing more purpose and pegging Rabs back in their own half, but stout defending by the visitors – coupled with poor finishing by the home front men – meant they failed to make the breakthrough.
Rob Roy were reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute when Fulton lashed the ball against Bartlet after the Dyce man had been pulled up for a foul. Referee Pirie showed the Rabs play-maker a straight red card.
Rob Roy restored their two-goal advantage in the 71st minute when Gormley sent over a well-struck corner for Chris Mackie to rise above the home defence to direct a well-placed header high into the net.
A minute later Forsyth handled in the box. Gormley took the spot kick and completed a well-earned hat-trick by hammering home for Rob Roy’s fifth. With the home side showing signs of fatigue only a superb diving save by keeper Barney prevented number six.
