Riverside cup joy for Lenzie youngsters is a great start to the season
LENZIE YC 1998s enjoyed a goal-den start to their season with a dramatic victory in the inaugural Riverside Cup tournament, held in Bridge of Allan.
Victories over Crieff Juniors and hosts Riverside FC put the Sky Blues into a strong position before a narrow loss to Campsie set up a nerve-jangling final match with Kinross Colts.
Needing to out-shoot Riverside on goal difference, Lenzie began strongly and Stuart Leitch’s breakthrough goal was followed by a Lewis Beveridge brace to make it 3-0. Two late goals from Kinross made for a tight end to the tournament, but the East Dunbartonshire boys were delighted to hear they had come through on goals scored. The team are pictured above.
Lenzie section co-ordinator Karen Graham said: “The boys deserved their triumph for their effort and fine play. Hopefully this sets us up well for the season.”
Results:
Crieff Juniors 0 – Lenzie 1 (Beveridge)
Riverside 0 – Lenzie 2
(McCabe, Burns)
Campsie 1 – Lenzie 0
Lenzie 3 (Leitch, Beveridge 2) – Kinross Colts 2
Lenzie’s Lewis Beveridge finished joint-top scorer with three goals.
