There was little between the teams in the opening exchanges, but following three corners in quick succession Rabs broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when a Frye free-kick found McVey who crossed for Diack to slot the ball past keeper Sommerville from inside the box.
The Adamslie Park side kept up the pressure with Adam bringing out a smart save from Sommerville. Minutes later, from a Bradley cross, Adam had the ball in the Rossvale net only to be denied by the assistant’s flag.
Throughout the half Rossvale showed attacking flair, but failed to pierce Rabs defence on a number of occasions. Diack had a chance to increase Rabs’ tally, but his effort in front of goal lacked power. Then, from a clever passing move, Bradley was inches wide with a volley.
On the half-time whistle Rabs were awarded a penalty when Adam went down in the box under a clumsy challenge. Easton squeezed the spot kick past Sommerville inside the post despite a valiant effort to keep it out.
Rabs began the second half on top. Vale keeper Sommerville, who was having an outstanding match, made a good stop from Diack after substitute Gormley saw his goal-bound shot blocked by Fraser. Sommerville then stopped a Gormley 20-yard strike.
On the hour mark Rabs increased their lead when Adam cleverly turned in the box before firing into the net. Two minutes later Rossvale pulled one back when Dempsey sent a perfect 25-yard free-kick over Terry’s raised arms and under the bar. The goal spurred the Bishopbriggs side on and for a spell Rabs defended in depth.
As the half wore on the home side looked the more likely to score again. Sommerville saved from McAleenan then, from a McVey cross, Coakley headed over the bar.
Rabs made it four in the 74th minute when Gormley fired over a pinpoint cross from the left for Ohakam to send a looping header into the net. McDermott had a chance to add his name onto the Rossvale score-sheet but shot over the bar. In the closing stages Connolly had a shot cleared off the line.
