Rob Roy coasted into the second round of the West of Scotland Cup thanks to a six-goal season’s best first half performance.
An additional second half goal saw Rabs beat hapless Darvel Juniors 7-0 on Saturday – to the delight of gaffer Stewart Maxwell.
He said: “We changed the team slightly to a really attacking formation and knew if we started well we could have the game won by half-time. We got a goal after a couple of minutes then for the next 30 minutes put in our best performance of the season.
“Being 6-0 up at half-time it was hard to maintain our performance level in the second half, but I wanted then to keep a clean sheet – which they did – because that’s something we’ve been having trouble with in the later stages of games.”
This weekend sees the young Kirkintilloch team play Lochee Harp in the Scottish Junior Cup second round.
Maxwell said: “We’re now focusing on Saturday which is another of these games we’re expected to win. I believe we’re taking a substantial support with us and it’s important we come back down with the right result.”
Rob Roy take on Lochee Harp at Beechwood Park on Saturday. Kick-off at 2.30pm.
