Rossvale went out of the ETHX Scottish Junior Cup at Bonnyrigg on Saturday - but did themselves proud against the East Region champions.

Rossvale were hopeful they could cause a cup upset and couldn’t have asked for a better start.

A free-kick two minutes into the game by Kirk Forbes was driven in low only for the keeper to parry the ball to the feet of Gary McGrath who calmly slotted it into the goal and put Vale one up.

On seven minutes the visitors threatened again when Smart Osadolor ran down the right wing and cut in to fire a shot which was just off target.

But when Bonnyrigg won a corner it was delivered to the back post and headed in by Dean Hoskins to level the game at 1-1.

This was end to end stuff with both teams enjoying good possesion and having chances to score.

An Osadolor shot from the corner of the penalty box hit the far post and Corey Irvine fired wide after a Forbes free-kick was cleared to him, while at the other end Jamie Donnelly saved from a Bonnyrigg corner and a free-kick from John Stewart went over the bar.

Just before half-time Rossvale had the ball in the net when a pass from Forbes landed at the feet of Osadolor who poked it past the keeper.

But the referee disallowed it for a foul - and from the free-kick Hoskins was allowed to run from halfway and play an angled pass to the supporting Turner who slipped the ball past Donnelly to give Bonnyrigg the lead.

Rose had the chance to extend their lead but the attempted overhead kick by Scott Gray went over the bar.

After the break a shot from Lewis Turner was pushed away by Jamie Donnelly for a corner which came to nothing.

On the hour the referee produced the first yellow card of the game when Turner was booked for a foul on Craig Holmes. Bonnyrigg regained possesion and increased their lead to 3-1 after a cross from the touchline was headed in by Keiran McGachie.

Vale replaced Irvine and David Leadbetter with Steven Seaton and Euan Baird as they tried to find a way back into the game.

With 12 minutes to play, an Osadolor free-kick landed at the feet of McGrath whose shot went just over the bar.

Holmes was booked for kicking the ball away after being flagged offside as Rossvale continued to look for another goal, and a shot from Smart Osadolar was deflected over the keeper who managed to tip it over for a corner.

In the final minutes, Sean Doherty fired in a cross that was headed clear.
