Smith praises Peasy keeper
Petershill co-boss Scott Smith.
SHOTSTOPPER Scott Black has kept Petershill’s cup dreams alive by saving three penalties.
He might not always be first choice - taking over goalkeeping duties from Steven McNeil - but Black has helped Peasy through to the next round of the D&D Programmes Central League Cup.
Peasy held Benburb to a goalless draw in the first round of this competition which took place at Tinto Park on Saturday.
Winning 3-0 on penalties, Peasy’s proud co-boss Scott Smith Praised the keeper, saying: “To save three penalties is brilliant, any keeper would be chuffed.”
The game, however, wasn’t as smooth running for Peasy with Smith admitting it was not their best performance.
He said: “We never played well, we never really took charge and we never got started at all.
“There was a couple of chances but there wasn’t enough.
“It wasn’t one of our best games, we are just happy to get through.”
Smith admits that his side’s lacklustre performance can be put down to the team not having the same motivation against the smaller junior sides as they do with the bigger teams.
He added: “The motivation hasn’t been the same when we played teams in these cup competitions and that is why we have been knocked out of the early stages.
“The form in cup competitions is really poor and that is why we really want to do well when we play Shettleston in the next round.”
Petershill will return to league action on Saturday when they take on Beith at Bellsdale Park.
Kick off is 2pm.
