IT’S been a super start to the season for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.
The Rabs have continued their winning start to the season – topping the Super League Premier Division and advancing to the semi-finals of the Sectional League Cup.
Last Wednesday Rabs beat Lanark United 3-1 in the cup quarter final to earn a last-four appearance against Peterhill at Adamslie Park tonight (Wednesday) at 6.30pm.
And on Saturday they hammered Kilbirnie Ladeside 5-1 to maintain their unbeaten record this season.
Manager Jimmy Lindsay told Herald Sport: “The team did really well on Saturday and it was the best they’ve played this season. Kilbirnie are a hard team to go down to and are very organised so it was good to get three points.
“It’s great to be at the top of the table and I just hope we can stay there for the next couple of weeks at least.
“We’ve now got a tough couple of games with the semi-final against Petershill and then travelling to Ayrshire to take on Auchinleck Talbot in the league.”
Rob Roy play Auchinleck at Beechwood Park this Saturday at 2pm.
Meanwhile, junior football newcomers Rossvale celebrated their maiden win in the West of Scotland League Second Division after a last-gasp goal against Stonehouse Violet on Saturday.
Rossvale led 3-0 at half time, but five minutes of madness at the start of the second 45-minutes saw Stonehouse score three to equalise.
Vale’s eventual winner came in the 90th minute to make it 4-3.
Manager Ian Gray said: “The game should have been won after 45 minutes, but we were given a bit of a lesson at the start of the second half.
“They really got stuck in and some of the younger boys aren’t used to that. It’s good to get our first points though.”
Rossvale take on Blantyre Victoria in the league at Castle Park on Saturday. Kick-off is 2pm.
