LENZIE Youth Club leader Ian Stevenson recently met up with Tony McAndrew – youth team manager at Aston Villa.
Tony played for Ian when he was coaching at Eastercraigs. Other boys in that team included Willie Miller and Gregor Stevens.
Meanwhile, Lenzie Youth Club U16 (1996) have completed their games for 2011 in what has been another good year for the team.
At U15 level the first silverware of the year came back in April when the team won the fourth Falkirk Cup at Little Kerse in the final against Castleview FC.
This was followed by a second Central Region Cup final appearance in a row and a superb display against Notredame SA saw Lenzie win the region’s top prize.
There were another three more CKDYL cup finals and a second runners-up spot in the league.
The boys retained the WSCYP Shield at Dam Park in Ayr in June against a strong Clydebank FC side on penalties and in July won a Rangers International Trophy at Glasgow High School against top Glasgow District side Blantyre Vics.
Lenzie now compete in the DFDL at U16 and sit top of the league.
They are through to the third round of the Central Region Cup, the last 16 of the SYFA Scottish Cup and still have the DFDL League Cup and WSCYP trophies to contest in 2012.
Lenzie Youth Club (formed 1980) gained the SFA Quality Mark in May 2011 and chairman Gerry Gallagher, club founder Ian Stevenson and head coach Billy Inglis received the award from the SFA’s Alan Taylor at the Central Region U15 Cup final at Ochilview.
The club have over 30 coaches and 15 teams at present, from 2005 to 1996, playing in various associations – the DSSA, CSFDA, CKDYL, GADYL and DFDL.
