KIRKINTILLOCH’S Waterside FC found themselves paying the penalty as players went ‘Postal’ on Saturday.

Waterside’s indiscipline cost them the chance to consolidate their lead at the top of the league and saw them drop to third place.
McEwan was sent off in the 37th minute with Hamilton following in the 64th minute, both for dissent. Frustration caused by a lacklustre performance from the referee, saw tempers fray.
Waterside started well, with Fitzsimmons coming close in the fourth minute, but his header was wide. A minute later his shot from the edge was deflected for a corner.
In the 16th minute Fitzsimmons broke into the box, beat a defender and shot, the keeper getting a hand to the ball and tipping it onto the bar, the deflection then cleared. ‘Side were creating the majority of chances, but struggled up front with only one forward.
On 36 minutes the Postal number nine was through on goal, but his shot was wide. McEwan was red-carded on 37 minutes for persistent dissent. Barr saved brilliantly from a Postal header from a corner in the 40th minute.
Fitzsimmons again caused problems for the Postal defence, dribbling into the box. He was fouled, but nothing was given and the ball was cleared.
Stewart replaced Campbell at the start of the second half. Postal had a chance to score on the 50th minute, a cross from the right flashing across the Waterside goal, but there were no takers.
Fitzsimmons’ front-post header, from a Seferi long throw-in, went the wrong side of the post.
Stewart came close for ‘Side on 54 minutes. His break on the right saw the Postal keeper advance, but his lobbed effort went past the back post.
Waterside were unlucky not to score in the 58th minute when a goal-mouth scramble saw Postal struggling, but they eventually clearing the danger.
Postal scored on 63 minutes after a break on the left allowed their forward to shoot. Barr parried, but the ball was picked up by the winger who finished from close range.
Waterside were reduced to nine men when Hamilton received a red card for dissent. Barr pulled off another great save on 72 minutes to keep ‘Side’s narrow hope of a point alive.
Postal had chances to kill off the match, but poor finishing and keeper Barr on top form saw them held to 0-1 until the 89th minute when they doubled their lead – when a well-worked corner was guided in at the front post.
Fitzsimmons scored a consolation goal for Waterside in injury time. A mistake at the back saw Fitzsimmons through on the keeper with two defenders bearing down on him, his shot beating the goalie at the far post.
Waterside are away to Glasgow Deaf Athletic in the West of Scotland Cup this Saturday.
