CKDYL League Cup

A RIP-roaring match saw a depleted Lenzie side twice come back from behind to claim all three points. The visitors started brightest, racing into a two-goal lead, but two Lewis Beveridge strikes restored parity before Garnkirk went in front again just before half-time. Into the second half, Jack Griston tied things up with a speculative long-ranger then Beveridge put the Sky Blues ahead, bursting through to finish with aplomb. LYC were further boosted by an excellent penalty save from goalie Curtis Haynes, although Garnkirk were to make it 4-4 soon afterwards. With the outcome balanced on a knife-edge, Lenzie’s Ben Graham produced a decisive moment of brilliance, chipping home exquisitely from the edge of the box. Hard-working Garnkirk stormed forward again, but their fate was sealed when a breakaway ended with Lewis Beveridge adding his fourth of the match.

LENZIE started well with a penalty in the first minute. Sean Erwin’s shot was saved well by the keeper. Lenzie played a good passing game and scored their first goal through Kyle Burns after good play by Angus Muir. Lenzie were awarded a free-kick and Kyle Burns scored from 25 yards. Goldenhill pulled one back through a breakaway. Both teams missed chances. Lenzie scored their third goal before half-time when a long ball from Pender found Keiran Murphy, who scored from close range. Goldenhill scored midway into the second half after a mix-up in the defence. Both teams were playing good football. Lenzie scored their fourth when Murphy sprinted clear to net easily. As the game went on Goldenhill pressed forward and scored their third with minutes remaining. Goalie Jamie Lane then made a fantastic save and Lenzie got their first three points. Best were Jack Coutts, Greg Cumming and man-of-the-match Jamie Lane.

GADYFL League Cup 1st Round (Under 15)

A GOOD week for Lenzie, coasting into the second round of the “Scottish” at Bishopton and getting a good result in the League Cup.The first half was an even affair with Lenzie opening the scoring through Corey Irvine and Morton immediately replying. Both teams were creating chances and both goalkeepers were busy. Lenzie scored at the beginning of the second half, again through Irvine, and gradually began to dominate, but it was not until the end – when they added a third goal through Conor McLaughlin – did the tie look safe.

Referee’s player was Ross Fraser with outstanding wing back play. This week Lenzie are away to St Peter’s in the league.

* Lenzie Youth Club 11-a-side teams had a good weekend with all four teams winning league and cup games.

THE first half was hard fought with the Roch taking the lead five minutes before half-time. A cross was flapped at by the Larkhall keeper and the ball fell nicely for Ryan Mitchell to score. On the hour mark a 50/50 ball was met by Mathew Stanway who struck it in the top corner from the corner of the box. After 70 minutes they scored a third when a Barry McGeechan free-kick thundered into the net. St Roch’s got another one five minutes from the end when Jordan Logan gave the keeper no chance. St Roch’s are at home at Provanmill Park vs Wishaw on Sunday – 2pm kick-off.
