Leaders Redbrae extend lead at the top
Donner Inn Amateurs 0 Redbrae AFC 1
REDBRAE extended their lead at the top of the table with a hard fought victory at second-placed Donner Inn on Saturday.
On a hard and slippy surface, Redbrae were lucky to survive early on when a home forward rattled the post after a defensive error.
The visitors quickly hit back and almost scored on six minutes when Paton cut across the 18 yard line and shot wide.
Brae had intended to keep the game tight, but the surface made it hard for their defenders to keep their feet, particularly when turning.
Redbrae came close to scoring on 13 minutes from a good free kick that was well saved.
The home team were making life difficult for Brae, but the visitors almost scored on 18 minutes. Following a good break, Carrigan's cross found Paton, but the keeper saved well.
Brae keeper Wright then had to make a great block after a Donner break down the right.
The rest of the first-half proved to be a good, strong battle with few created.
Redbrae were shooting up the hill in the second-half and should have gone ahead on 54 minutes. From a swift move on the left, Hood and Sutherland combined to set-up Carrigan, and from his pinpoint cross, Paton's header under pressure went wide.
They came close again 10 minutes later. A long pass bounced at the edge of the Donner penalty area, and Carrigan shot just wide.
Two minutes later a great free kick by Malcolm was superbly saved by the keeper.
Redbrae brought on Brownlie for Carrigan, allowing Sweeney to move up front.
The move paid dividends when they took the lead after 78 minutes. A long ball was missed by the home centre half, and Sweeney sent a right foot shot past the stranded keeper.
Donner pushed players forward in an attempt to equalise, but Redbrae held firm.
The visitors then brought the speedy Hutton on for McAllister. With three minutes to go, Paton broke through the inside left channel, but his shot hit the post and was cleared.
On Saturday, Redbrae are at home in the league to Falkirk United at Tintock. Players should meet at Luggie Park at 12.30pm sharp.
Pool: Wright, Brown, Gray, Hood, Laird, McAllister, Sweeney, Malcolm, Sutherland, Paton, Carrigan, Kerr, Brownlie, Beattie, Hutton.
