Lenzie look to make a French connection!

THIS will be a big year for Lenzie Youth Club, with their under-14 squad accepting an invitation to represent Scotland in the Festival D'Armor in northern France in late spring.

The festival is held in Plougonvelin, Brittany, and 24 teams play for the trophy – 12 from France, including youth teams from Lens, Rennes, Bordeaux, Paris SG, Nantes, Monaco, Auxerre and Marseille, and teams from Italy, Spain, Sweden, Germany and USA.

Players who have previously played in the tournament include Makelele, Figo, Silvestre, Guivarch and Diomede, and previous winners include youth sides from Barcelona and Benfica.

All the teams are accommodated together in a holiday complex.

The competition has been running since 1981 and Lenzie have played in it on three previous occasions, with their best performance finishing in sixth place, which they will try to improve on this time.
