Lenzie curling club has a ball with 'Magic 8'

DURING this very cold spell it can be extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to get to your local curling rink to play a game of curling.

On the coldest night of the year, with more snow predicted, eight members of Alma C.C. managed to make it in to the Braehead Curling Rink to play one of their inter-club games, but wondered if it was worthwhile as they would be facing another difficult journey home afterwards!

However, four of the curlers forgot all about the weather as they ordered drinks for everyone in the bar after scoring 'The Magic Eight' in the final end of their game.

They were actually '7' down at the start of the end so it was a double celebration.

If anyone is interested Charles will be happy to provide them with a breakdown of how the team achieved the score and will be available as an after-dinner speaker for many years to come!

Well done to Charles and the other members of the team for brightening up a very cold night at Braehead Curling Rink.

Alma Curling Club was started over 25 years ago by members of Lenzie Golf Club. The '8 Ender' is the first in the club's history and a very rare occurrence in a curling game.

The team – taking part in a club competition called the Buchanan Quaich – consisted of Bill Thompson (skip), Charles Jackson (third), Bobby McEwan (second) and Bill Stephens (lead). The team are pictured.
