Lenzie athletes put in relay brilliant performances

TALENTED pupils from Lenzie Academy showed their gold standard at the Scottish Schools Relays in Grangemouth on Saturday, June 2.

This is a report from that momentous day:

They did it! The senior girls relay team has conquered all age group championships from S1 D Group in 2007, Group C in 2008 and 2009, Group B in 2010 to Senior A Group in 2011 and 2012.

This is officially a record for a single team to achieve all age group championships. Well done girls!

Deborah Hannah had a flying start, passing to Juliet Gold who stormed down the back straight to Rhiannon Carmichael. At this point the team lay in second place. Final leg Chloe Lambert had an outstanding sprint to win several metres ahead of a very disappointed Hutcheson’s Grammar.

What a finale for this exceptional team. They have previously been awarded the Mildred Storrer Trophy on two occasions as the ‘Most Meritorious Girls Relay Team’ and from their accumulation of points from the relay and track and field in previous years, they were also awarded the Paisley Shield as the top school girls athletics team in Scotland.

The S1 and S2 girls and boys teams enjoyed the experience of competing at a high level and will use their expertise to hopefully perform well at the Dunbarton Schools Sports later this month.

The D Group Girls – S1 Katie Cassidy, S2 Anna Forbes, Lorna Cowan and Perri McCluskey – finished fifth in their heat.

The Group D Boys – S1 Euan Martin, Gavin Cruickshanks, Ben Dalziel and Chris Huddy – finished seventh in their heat.

The Group C Girls – S2 Jenny Lee, Louise Campbell, Victoria Robertson and Abbie Reid finished fifth in their heat.

H MacGuire,

PE Department.
