A tireless tennis coach has been named East Dunbartonshire’s Disability Coach of the Year - for the second time in a row.
Allwyn Crawford, club coach at Bishopbriggs Tennis Club, received the accolade at the 2013 Coach and Volunteer Awards at Kilmardinny Arts Centre earlier this year.
The awards were held by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT), in partner with Sportscotland.
There were nine individual winners, with Allwyn once again being presented with the trophy she first won in 2012.
Allwyn coaches tennis within Campsie View School with follow up sessions at Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre.
She also coaches during curriculum time at Merkland School with follow up sessions at Bishopbriggs Tennis Club.
Allwyn told the Herald: “I felt so humbled receiving the award, being appreciated and recognized for my work is awesome, but I also want to thank the teachers, the support workers, who are with me when I coach within Campsie View and Merkland.
“We are a team, we all work together, so my award is accepted on their behalf too, as without them, my lessons just wouldn’t be able to go ahead.
“I love what I do. Emotionally it is up and down as no two lessons are ever the same.
“The pupils never react the same each week, but there is the challenge, and I would like to think I have made a difference to those who have come along to the tennis sessions.
