TOP golfing prospect Craig Chalmers (16) won one of the most prestigious golfing trophies in East Dunbartonshire recently when he lifted the Kirkintilloch Shield.

Craig, who plays off a handicap of one, saw his name added to a shield which has been played for since 1964.

Originally competed for by golfers at Kirkintilloch, Hayston and Lenzie Golf Clubs, it’s now exclusively played for by members at Lenzie.

The Lenzie Academy pupil, who practises nearly every single day and also plays for Dunbarton County, said he was delighted to win.

Craig said: “It’s great to win what’s probably the biggest trophy at the golf club. I hoped to do well but had no expectations of winning it.”

Proud mum Alison said: “It’s great to see him have an interest in a sport which teaches social skills and etiquette.

“He enjoys golf so much.”
