In the swim – youngsters dive into action for Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth

IN a busy few weeks for Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth Swimming Club, there were a number of excellent performances.

At the West District Championship, fourteen-year-old Christopher Muir won the 200m Butterfly with a new club record of 2:25.56 and took the silver medal in the 100m Butterfly with another new club record of 1:05.00.

Christopher also finished fourth in the 200m Freestyle with a new personal best of 2:09.37.

Fifteen-year-old Emma Scobie set a new personal best of 1:05.63 when finishing 6th in the final of the 100m Freestyle and was placed fifth in the final of the 100m Backstroke.

Fourteen-year-old Gordon Airlie finished 6th in the final of the 100m Freestyle with 59.44 and sixth in the final of the 100m Breaststroke.

Thirteen-year-old Emma Smith set a new personal best of 1:08.26 in the 100m Freestyle.

Twelve-year-old Rachel Gilchrist placed fifth in the final of the 200m Backstroke with a new personal best of 2:48.47.

At the highly competitive Ren96 Open at Bellshill, a further three club records were set and Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth swimmers made eight finals.

The in-form Christopher Muir won the 200m Butterfly with a new club record of 2:24.80 and was third in the 100m Butterfly with 1:05.27.

Gordon Airlie placed sixth in the final of the 50m Freestyle with a club record of 27.01, Emma Scobie placed fourth in the final of the 50m Freestyle with a club record of 29.07 and eleven-year-old Erin Gribben finished sixth in the final of the 50m Freestyle.

In a busy weekend Heather Lees appeared in four finals where she was placed fourth in the 100m Freestyle with a new personal best of 1:07.96, 100m Breastroke with 1:27.21 and 100m Butterfly with 1:20.04.

Heather was also placed sixth in the final of the 50m Freestyle and set a personal best in the 400m IM with 5:58.26.

In the twelve-year-olds, Rachel Gilchrist set new personal bests in the 50m Freestyle - 31.64, 100m Freestyle - 1:08.58, 200m Freestyle - 2:32.22 and 100m Backstroke - 1:20.33 and Cameron Vallely set personal bests in the 50m Freestyle - 34.50, 200m Freestyle - 2:52.09 and 100m Breaststroke - 1:41.20.

Fifteen-year-old Connor Gulline set personal bests in the 50m Freestyle - 28.00 and 100m Butterfly 1:13.61.

Thirteen-year-old Emma Smith set a new personal best in the 100m Backstroke with 1:19.32.
