Auchengeich boxer Johnny Fitzsimmons defied the odds to become the British school boy champion at this year’s Three Nations tournament.
The current Scottish champion was selected to represent his country at the 48kg level against English and Welsh competitors in Manchester.
And despite being given a bye into the final, young Johnny was handed a mammoth challenge after being paired with a fighter two years his senior.
Nevertheless, the upstart from the Auchengeich Amateur Boxing Club was undeterred by the task.
The first round was a decidedly even affair although his opponent Jordan Withers did enough to sway the judges to award him the round.
However, Johnny showed heart in the second as he weathered a series of blows to then hammer his opponent with a flurry of clean shots.
The title rested on the outcome of the third and final round with both fighters going flat out.
However, Johnny was explosive from the bell and rained a succession of strikes to take the title as British champion for the 48kg level.
