LENZIE Bowling Club is celebrating a successful season which saw members notch up a number of titles.
In May the club managed to retain the Norwood Trophy, which is contested by the four closest clubs in the area.
This was followed by the Kirkintilloch & District Bowling Association 1st Division League title.
The club almost made it a double in the senior league, finishing just a point behind winners Campsie after a dramatic final day.
There were also a number of individual achievements by Lenzie’s younger players.
Scott Cunningham (23) lifted the Gents Championship for the first time, joining his brother, father and grandfather on the list of club champions.
This triumph concluded a terrific year in which he qualified for the Bowls Scotland National Championship at Ayr, in the junior singles discipline.
In addition Scott, alongside club mates Gavin Ansari and Jack Deacon, was part of the Dumbartonshire Under-25 County side that reached the Scottish Junior Final.
Gavin Ansari, who captained the team, also received a trial for the Scotland Under-25 squad for the second year in succession.
At gents county level, Lenzie had no fewer than six players capped for Dumbartonshire East.
Club President Willie Milne said of the success: “This season has been terrific on all fronts.
“Lenzie’s ability to challenge in all competitions really highlights our strength in depth as a team.
“Furthermore, the schools coaching programme continues to be very successful and has totally revitalised the junior section. Many of our top players in the club were products of the youth coaching set-up and with a new group coming through, it certainly points towards a bright future”.
Full results from Lenzie’s finals for 2011 are in this week’s Herald.
