Kirkintilloch Muay Thai fighter Stuart Wilson proved he packs a punch recently by landing the Scottish title - and giving himself a belated birthday present.

Stuart turned 25 just a few days before his Scottish area title fight on the ‘Rumble at the Bay’ show at Pettycur Bay in Fife.

But he put his celebrations on hold to concentrate on his fight with Stuart Forrest, a sacrifice which paid off in style.

Stuart is based at the M-Mag gym in Kirkintilloch and spent two weeks in Thailand - homeland of the Muay Thai discipline - earlier this year after winning the gym’s Fighter of the Year award. The aim of the trip was to gain valuable experience training with and fighting against local experts.

And according to M-Mag head coach and Scottish champion Mescho Dunko his efforts paid off in style.

Mescho said: “Stuart fought for the title on an away show up in the ‘Rumble at the Bay’ against a local at 70 kilos, a higher weight than he normally fights at which is usually 68k.

“After five hard fought rounds Stuart took the win by outscoring his opponent in the last three rounds.

“Both lads put on a tremendous fight with what many believed should have been fight of the night, all this after having to sacrifice celebrating his 25th birthday on the Wednesday before.”

To complete a terrific night for M-Mag Stuart’s training partner Mark Reid took a great win on the same bill in his first professional fight.

Stuart, Mark and Mescho all work together at Cosmetic Gardening who are one of the gym’s sponsors.
