A GOLF champ has recorded a remarkable double after winning back-to-back tournaments.

Jamie Savage (18), from Bishopbriggs, landed both the West of Scotland boys’ strokeplay championship AND matchplay championship within a single week in July.

He landed the strokeplay title in style – winning by five clear shots – while the matchplay was a closer affair with Jamie recording a narrow 2 and 1 win in the final.

It’s thought to be just the second time that the double has been done and Jamie achieved it all on his home course of Cawder.

Jamie, who plays off a handicap of +3, told the Herald: “The year before I won the stroke play, but lost the match play in the final so it was nice to do the double in my last year playing in the boys’ competitions.”

The former Lenzie Academy pupil is now making the step up to the mens’ amateur circuit and hopes to turn professional in a couple of years.
