A GROUP of acrobatic youngsters have jumped, tumbled and somersaulted their way to success in a prestigious competition.

Gymnasts from Bishopbriggs Acro Gymnastics travelled to Avondale, Larkhall, recently to compete in the West District Championships.

The testing sport combines the strength and flexibility of gymnastics with the rhythm and grace of dance, and the Bishopbriggs club followed up their recent Scottish Championship success with another great haul of medals.

The club’s Grade 2 womens group of Ainslie Bennett, Jess Daly and Aimee McInally competed for the first time at this level and won bronze medals after making the transition from Grade 1 to Grade 2.

Sarah Finlay, Holly Kelly and Cara McGinley competed in the Grade 1 womens group category and claimed silver medals after an excellent routine which demonstrated strong technical work and precise choreography.

Meanwhile, the Grade 2 womens pair saw two pairs from the club take to the floor with very different routines.

Hazel Howat and Dani Thomson put on a terrific performance as usual and finished the competition in 2nd position after a routine full of character.

Sarah Finlay and Holly Kelly claimed the gold medals in G2 womens pair after a well executed routine which was polished and poised throughout - achieving the highest score of the competition.

A spokesperson from the club said: “The club had several gymnasts competing for the first time and all gymnasts performed very well on the day.

“As well as the medal winners, the club had several other top six results which was very encouraging particularly given the young age of many of the gymnasts competing.”
