On a long journey to Horwich in England, the superstar Masters team travelled for the national 5K event and our winning trio of Stevie Allen, Bobby Keenan and Graeme McCabe took first place and gold medals.

This is a tremendous achievement and deserved the following accolade from Scottish Athletics. Jim Goldie, coaching and training manager for Scottish Athletics: “It is encouraging to see Kirkintilloch doing so well in events across the UK, I picked up some positive news from the UK Masters yesterday, great result for the club.”

Alistair McFarlane, masters coach for KO commented, “A truly historic day for Kirky Olympians to win a National title which should inspire others in the club and let everyone realise what can be achieved! And it was nice to receive a message of congratulations from Dave Cooney, team manager of RH Cambuslang Harriers our biggest Masters rivals in Scotland.”

Meantime the U-17 East Dunbartonshire squad took second place in the YDL Meet at Kilmarnock last weekend with a range of great performances. Well done to Harry Lamond, Laura Keay, Alicia Paton and Fiona Glen in particular.

Also well done to all juniors who took part in the U12 Super teams event at Grangemouth with outstanding performances. A huge thank you also to Reece Masterton, Russell Smith, Ally Lamond and Ada Stewart for tremendous coaching support.

All summer training for Kirkintilloch Olympians meets at Merkland Recreation Centre 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, all verywelcome.
