Thorniewood United 1
Rob Roy 3
West of Scotland
Premier First Division
This was an impressive win for Rob Roy with on loan Clyde player Kevin Watt netting a superb hat-trick to clinch a result which maintains Rabs’ promotion challenge.
Rob Roy got off to a whirlwind start and grabbed a third minute lead when, from a Scott Upton corner kick, Kevin Watt rose above a static home defence to nod the ball into the net.
Against the run of play Thorniewood equalised when a defensive error allowed Lennon a shot at goal, keeper Murdoch managed to block the striker’s effort but Hamilton, following up, slid the loose ball into the empty net from close range.
With Upton pulling the strings in mid-field, Rabs regained control with home keeper Fitzpatrick making a fine blocking save from Upton before Barr headed an Upton free-kick wide of the target. Minutes later Davison headed a McKenzie cross wide.
Six minutes before the interval Rabs restored their advantage when Upton’s free-kick clattered the upright and Watt pounced on the rebound to send the ball into the net to give his side a well deserved lead.
Rabs, playing neat passing football, kept up the pressure in the second half with Upton’s shot kicked off his goal-line by defender Fleming.
Then in the 58th minute Rabs went further ahead when Watt secured his hat-trick when he fastened on to a long Upton free-kick to run through the home defence and keeping his composure placed the ball past Fitzpatrick.
Over the 90 minutes Rabs ran out comfortable winners with another three valuable points in the bag.
