Rabs take derby day honours

ROB Roy beat Petershill 4-1 on Saturday - in a professional performance by the Kirkintilloch side.

Rabs made the perfect start when Paul McQuilken took a touch at the edge of the box from a low Kevin MacDonald free kick from the right and blasted a thumping shot into the top corner before three minutes had elapsed.

After 22 minutes the forward player then added a second when he seized upon a short headed backpass from Anton Heffron, following a lumped punt forward from goalkeeper Kevin Bell, and tucked home with his left foot from a narrow angle.

Petershill offered little and McQuilken could have had a hat-trick only a minute later when he fired over from the edge of the box.

Two minutes from half time Peasie keeper Mark McGeown made a diving save to his right from the impressive Craig Feroz's low shot.

However, when the resultant corner initially found no takers, Stewart Maxwell lofted the ball back into the penalty area where Andy Ward nodded into the net via a deflection.

At 3-0 down it was no surprise Petershill manager Stevie Easton made a change at the interval, replacing the ineffectual Kieran McAleenan with Paul McBride and switching to a 3-4-3 formation.

The expected cavalry charge never materialised though, with Peasie's first effort of note in the second half coming in the 68th minute when a through ball from Jamie McCarroll saw substitute Kevin McBride pass when he may have elected to shoot and Paul McBride's effort was first blocked by Ward and then cleared off the line by MacDonald.

Very comfortable and with a solid shape, Rob Roy suffered a minor spell of pressure when Petershill substitute Alan Lindsay's 12-yard shot from the left found the net via the near post in 78 minutes.

However, the game was wrapped up 10 minutes later when a neat move finished with Rabs midfielder Kevin Murray running onto man-of-the-match McQuilken's defence splitting pass and flicking the ball with the outside of his foot over the onrushing keeper.
