Rabs look to bounce back after cup loss
A DESPONDENT John Richardson has expressed his disgust at the manner of Rob Roy's exit from this season's Scottish Cup.
With a whole host of tournament favourites already out of the competition, Richardson had spoken to his team about this year's cup "being up for grabs".
But after Craig Feroz had given Rabs a 13th-minute lead against Largs Thistle in Saturday's fifth-round tie, the side went on to suffer a 3-1 defeat.
Richardson said: "It's disappointing to go out of the cup, but as a squad we got what we deserved – nothing.
"From the minute we went one-nil up that was the game away from us.
"It wasn't just that we didn't play well – we didn't even turn up."
After impressive results and performances in the games leading up to the tie, Richardson was at a loss to explain the poor showing.
He said: "The shout at half-time – 2-1 down – was that if we didn't turn the performance around we'd be well out of the cup.
"It's the worst we've played in a long time and especially with the cup up for grabs this year – it makes it all the more disappointing."
Rabs were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Billy Jones – who had only been on the field for just eight minutes – kicked out at ex-Rob Roy player Ryan Deas on the touchline and was shown a straight red card.
Richardson added: "I have no complaints about the red card."
The focus for the rest of the season will be the league campaign, where Petershill's impressive 2-1 win at Pollok on Saturday saw Rabs drop to just above the relegation zone.
Richardson said: "The priority now is the league and keeping the club in the league.
"It was a brilliant result for Petershill but they've played four more games than us and we've still to play Bellshill and Lanark."
Rob Roy, who hope to have a fully-fit squad, return to cup competition this Saturday when they play first division Renfrew away in the second round of the West of Scotland Cup, kick-off 2pm.
