Rob Roy on top of the world

GOING in at the interval a goal in front Rob Roy overcame a disastrous six minute second half spell, conceding two cheap goals that required a spirited fightback to earn a creditable draw on Saturday.

Rabs had the best of the early play with skipper Tom Sinclair sending a dipping lob just over the bar, while at the other end Monaghan came close to opening the scoring for the home side.

In the 35th minute Rabs deservedly opened the scoring when Martins whipped a cross into the penalty area for Tom Sinclair to bullet a header past Connick.

Three minutes into the second half, Largs equalised. Coyle sent in a free-kick from the right and Barnes' shot appeared to strike James Lennox before flashing past Wilson into the net.

Worse was to follow six minutes later when Rabs were punished for defensive frailty. Lennox failed to clear from his penalty box, allowing Barnes to send the ball under the diving Wilson.

One ahead, Largs looked likely to increase their tally with Monaghan firing wide and substitute Phillips sending an effort over the bar.

Former Rob Roy player Ryan Deas' long free-kick was pushed clear by Scott Wilson before, minutes later, Thistle's Robertson passed up a glorious chance to seal the game when a free header sailed wide.

Rob Roy were awarded a 58th minute penalty when Feroz was pulled down. Feroz took the spot-kick, but Connick parried his effort before Brian MacKay's follow-up was blocked.

The visitors did equalise in the 82nd minute. Feroz headed against the underside of the bar and attempts by Connick could not prevent MacKay ramming the ball through a forest of legs.

Rabs went all out for three points and, in the final minutes, Sinclair had a decent effort scrambled clear by the beleaguered home defence before Feroz saw his diving header drift wide and Sinclair shot past.

Surridge Sectional League Cup – Quarter Final

ROB Roy secured a League Cup semi-final spot after a nailbiting penalty shoot-out victory.

Ashfield went ahead when skipper Mark Thomson headed home a Chalmers corner in the sixth minute.

However, this was cancelled out shortly afterwards as Craig Feroz scored from the spot after Ross Dunlop had been hauled down in the box.

The score remained level until a minute before the break when the home side's Gary McCann crashed a superb shot past Rabs keeper Scott Wilson.

Feroz again levelled matters, this time seven minutes into the second half, when he headed an Upton cross into the net at the far post.

A Brian Wardle header in the 66th minute put the visitors ahead only for Thompson to equalise with a late spot-kick.

In the penalty shoot-out, Chris Zok hit the post with Ryan Martins, Tom Sinclair and Paul McQuilken all scoring for Rabs.

Ashfield missed their first and fourth kicks leaving the final penalty to Craig Feroz, who made no mistake to send Rabs through.
