FIRST blood for Allan Glen’s RFC as they get new season really up and running.
Allan Glen’s............... 26
Glens gained their first win of the season against a rather mediocre Irvine side.
The home side opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a penalty by Thomson.
Irvine’s hard-running scrum-half and centres, however, were giving Glens no end of trouble and the seasiders eventually broke down the home defence for Lang to score in the corner.
The teams swapped penalties before the break – Thomson for Glens and Hobson for Irvine, making a half-time score of 8-6. Things livened up after the restart with Irvine scoring two tries in quick succession through Lang and Speirs.
Now Glens came to life. Using their superior forward power the home side persistently pressed the visitors’ line.
A charge by Murrell and a similar touch down by Naphousen put Glens in the lead. This was followed shortly by a breakaway try by McKeown, who sprinted the length of the pitch for the concluding try.
Thomson converted all three of Glens’ tries.
