Subscriptions for Kirkintilloch’s annual 12.5K race are now full and a waiting list is in place for those who were not lucky enough to secure a slot.

The race, which commences outside of Gartconner Primary School and takes place on Sunday, 15 February, has seen 300 people sign up to take part.

Organiser Robert Rogerson said: “This will be my ninth year working on the road race and it is one of our most successful years so far.

“Each year it’s been full, but this year was definitely the quickest to fill up.

“People are attracted to the race because it’s an unusual distance and it’s a challenging course on quiet country roads with 12 hills along the way. It’s a real challenge.”

The race, which is the only 12.5K in the UK, attracts club runners from across the country but plenty of locals as well, particularly those who want to test their performance after winter training.
