Trophy boost after being impressed by Olympians
Olympians trophy
A LEGENDARY East Dunbartonshire running club has been handed a trophy.
Local resident Eric Meechan has walked in the Westermains area of Kirkintilloch for many years and on a regular basis sees groups of runners training there – as well as on the canal bank in the summer months.
Impressed by their efforts he discovered the runners were members of the Kirkintilloch Olympians.
The club, with around 300 members, celebrated its 30th anniversary in October last year.
Mr Meechan, group manager of Scot JCB Ltd, arranged for the company to donate a trophy in recognition of all the hard work and effort put in by the club to help the youngsters of East Dunbartonshire.
A spokesperson for Kirkintilloch Olympians said the club was delighted to receive recognition in this way.
TROPHY JOY: Eric Meechan hands over the Scot JCB Ltd Trophy to Linda Brown of Kirkintilloch Olympians. The trophy was presented to under-11 boys track and field champion Luke McCaffrey at the annual presentation night.
