Watch triumph 5-1 over KRR Harestanes

BLACK Watch players made amends for their disappointing display against Steins last week with a hard working performance at Luggie Park on Saturday in the league.

Blackies opened the scoring in the fifth minute when a long kick out from goalkeeper Cawley was moved into the path of Finnigan by a clever pass from Duff and Watch's wing back raced in on goal to beat keeper, Travers.

Harestanes players were working hard to make in roads on the Watch defence, but they found Cawley and his defence turning away their attacks.

It was 2-0 in the 10th minute when going through on a Whiteford pass, Oliver was pulled down in the box, the striker took the kick himself and blasted the ball past Travers.

Despite the early goals the game up to the interval was entertaining and the effort put in by both sides was impressive. Bell and Cross were in good form for Harestanes, but they could not make the breakthrough to give their side the chance to get back into the game.

Watch went further ahead in the 52nd minute when a free kick taken by Watch full back Davis from the halfway line hit a home defender and went into the net. This looked as if this would secure the points for Blackies, but Harestanes scored in the 62nd minute when a cross from Reid on the right saw Bell net at the back post.

Watch had the upper hand when it came to attacking, with McCluskey, Oliver, Duff and Finnigan causing real problems to the home defence.

Finnigan made it 4-1 in the 68th minute when a header from McLaren over the home defence saw the talented wing back race in on goal to slip the ball past Travers.

It was 5-1 in the 78th minute when full back Watt made a fine run from the back, before placing the ball in the path of McGeough, who cleverly beat the keeper from 15 yards. Always a challenge with the local rivals, but Watch were the likelier winners from early in the game.

Watch: D Cawley, G Watt, C Reid, S Davis, J McCluskey, G McLaren, J Darroch, W Whiteford, L Finnigan, J Duff, M Oliver, A Culbard, P McGeough, R Tiffiney, A Forrest, W Ross, M Clarke.

Watch play Baillieston on Thursday night in a league game at Hamilton Palace Grounds, 6.45pm kick off. On Saturday at Station Road they play Busby in a league game with a 2pm kick off.

Tote numbers for Saturday were 33 and 1, one winner receives 150.

Black Watch committee are delighted with the continuing financial support from Pauline and Allan Differ at Birdston Kennels and Paul McLaren at McLaren Accident Centre. Without this support Blackies would find it very difficult to meet the ever increasing costs of running the club.

If there is any firm or ex players who have made a success in the business world and would like to sponsor Watch, we would like them to get in touch, please telephone Gerry Marley on 01360 311396.

Under 19s League

CAMPSIE Black Watch 19s went into the lions den on Saturday against Goldenhill BC and put the home side through the sword with an outstanding performance from the young Watch.

From the first whistle Campsie took the game to Goldenhill and great chances fell to Aitken and O'Halloran, only to see their efforts going wide.

On the 21st minute Goldenhill were awarded a penalty when a long ball caught the Watch defence square, the Goudie striker, Carruth was chased into the box by McLoone only to be brought down by the full back.

Carruth picked himself up and placed the ball on the spot to send a right foot shot wide of Darroch's goal, a let off for Campsie.

With half an hour gone Campsie took first blood. Prentice broke down the right, found Millar on the edge of the box, he chipped a ball to Aitken, who volleyed home from six yards.

After the break the young Watch began to settle and move the ball around with ease. On the 54th minute they found the net, again from Prentice. O'Conner stole the ball from McIntosh, who played a one-two with O'Halloran to send a perfect pass for Prentice to hammer home from 12 yards.

At this stage in the game the midfield partnership of Millar and O'Conner were instrumental in all Campsie's play and the home team couldn't cope with Campsie's crisp passing.

The young Watch added to their lead on the 65th minute when McDowall raced down the left, picked out O'Conner who cleverly sneaked the ball between two Goldenhill defenders for Prentice to let rip a right foot shot high into the net for a great goal.

With 10 minutes left on the clock O'Halloran got on the score sheet, a quick free kick taken by Millar sent Prentice into the box, the winger found O'Halloran, who sent a powerful right foot shot into the net, giving keeper Methven no chance.

This is a new squad for Campsie Black Watch 19s this season and the committee are delighted that the new players have settled in and fully committed themselves to the club for the exciting season ahead.

Birdston Kennels man-of-the-match was Paul O'Conner.

Team: Darroch, McLoone, McDowall, MacArthur, McKinlay, Prentice, Millar, O'Conner, Haddow, Aitken, O'Halloran, Couslan, Reid, Chalmers, Storey.

Campsie 19s play Broomhill BC in the first round of the Scottish Cup, away next Sunday.
