Grassroots plan to make Lanark bloom pays off
And then, at the ceremony in Dundee on Friday, it was announced that the judges had awarded them an additional trophy, the Jim Murdie Trophy for Sustainability.
The group embarked on the ambitious new Horticulture Centre this year with Lanark Community Development Trust at Castlebank Park and the Lanark in Bloom polytunnel gives them space to raise plants for the town’s beds and baskets.

Hide AdThe group maintains flower beds throughout Lanark, at the Loch, the town’s gateways, the Ladyacre Road/Hyndford Road roundabout, the Cartland layby – “everything except the High Street and the council car park,” said the group’s chairman Ernest Romer.
Ernest was also singled out for the work he does with children at Lanark Primary School, inspiring young gardeners.
