Renovating the town hall and improving walkways were just some of the proposals given the thumbs-up by members of the public who attended Kirkintilloch Masterplan showcase events.
Locals were invited to share their views on the draft masterplan at this year’s canal festival and at other events held in the area.

Hide AdEast Dunbartonshire Council says the events attracted a large amount of public interest.
The proposals on display were the result of a series of consultation events which took place between November 2011 and January this year.
At the heart of the town centre masterplan is a rejuvenated town hall and improved access and parking.
The proposals also include using the current Lairdsland Primary site for new housing when the school relocates to Southbank Marina.

Hide AdCouncil leader Rhondda Geekie, chairperson of the Kirkintilloch Town Centre Champions Group, said: “The feedback received at the information events was generally very positive.
“People are keen that new buildings are designed to respect the streetscape and many wished to see more meeting places in the town centre.
“The majority who came along were in favour of proposals to refurbish the town hall, improve the environment for pedestrians whilst keeping traffic flowing through the town centre, and improving surrounding walkways and routes.
“We will formally consult on the draft masterplan early next year, but these events were an opportunity for people in the area to see the developing options. We have many ambitious plans for Kirkintilloch and it is important that we all work together to deliver a town centre plan that meets the needs of those who live here.”
