Cup win is a stroll in the Meadow
Cumbernauld United were easy winners of this Cup tie against Central District second side Newmains United at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday.
The locals dominated throughout the contest in this their first ever meeting with Newmains, who joined the Junior ranks in 2006 and should have enjoyed a bigger margin of victory.

Hide AdTwo goalline clearances, two efforts which came back off the crossbar, and numerous shots and headers that were too high or wide emphasised the Cumbernauld side’s superiority. In addition some good saves from visiting goalkeeper Danny Gall, plucky defending, and uncharacteristic finishing from United’s top marksman Chris Zok and his teammates kept the score at a reasonable level.
Interestingly the Newmains lineup included a father and son combination in Jim Dick age 41 and his boy Kris.
