What do other cities have that Glasgow doesnt? What does Glasgow need that it doesn’t have right now? Our readers answered those questions and then some
Glasgow is a great city - but sometimes we can’t help but feel like somethings missing.
Whether it was something we used to have which is sorely missed, or is a feature of other modern cities like Edinburgh, London or even Dundee that is absent from Glasgow, in this article we wanted to look at the things that are missing from Glasgow.
We asked readers of both Glasgowist and GlasgowWorld for their thoughts on what’s missing from Glasgow - and in total we got over 1500 responses from Glaswegians young and old, some still staying in the city, and some that are long-gone to new pastures.
It was a hard time whittling down all the responses to the best of the best, but we feel these 20 things are the greatest submissions which should be seriously considered by Glasgow City Council.

17. More affordable taxis
Like your granny always tells you, use them or lose them, but that’s easier said than done with the increasing price of a taxi fare. Glaswegian taxis have been in crisis mode since the pandemic killed the people going places economy - and with the introduction of the LEZ threatening to push a lot of taxis off the road, fares have gone right up. Cheaper fares would be great, as would keeping our current taxi infrastructure which so many people rely on. Photo: John Devlin
18. 24-hour nightclub licenses
Glasgow has a great night-life scene - but if we want to compete with the likes of Berlin, we need 24 hour clubs. What better way for Glasgow’s nightlife scene to bounce back from the pandemic? While we’re at it more 24 hour shops would be great too. Photo: Brian Sweeney
19. More rooftop bars
Glasgow has the best skyline out of any Scottish city, but it’s hard to see with your feet planted on the ground. It’s much better seen from a rooftop terrace bar with a cold drink in your hand. There’s only a handful of rooftop bars in the city, we want more!
20. Regular music at park bandstands
If we’re lucky we’ll get a dozen or so gigs at the bandstands a year - we want more! It’s such a waste that these beautiful outdoor spaces aren’t utilised more. Photo: Regular Music
