9. Hillhead
A perennially popular spot for students, Hillhead boasts some of the most impressive tenements in the West End and a cool vibe. Ashton Lane remains a fun night out, between the Ubiquitous Chip, Brel, Vodka Wodka and Jinty McGuintys. Hanoi Bike Shop serve impressive pho, Ruthven Mews is incredible for some second-hand shopping, and new spots like Parisian bakery Valaria keep Byres Road fresh. Undoubtedly one of our favourite summertime activities is grabbing some soufflé pancakes from Koko House and eating them with a coffee on the grass at the Botanic Gardens.
10. The Calton
Calton is a cool place to live, with easy access to the Barras market, and incredible venues like the Barrowland Ballroom, BAaD and Saint Luke's for music fans. There's some great food options as well, like Ho Lee Fook or Pizza Cult, Danny's Do-Nuts and Monster Munchies down the Baras. There's a real culture and character to the Calton that separates it from the rest of Glasgow, but you've also got such easy and quick access to the city centre.
11. Strathbungo
Strathbungo hasn't been immune to the changes the Southside has seen. The neighbourhood boasts a fine balance of traditional bars mixed with new restaurants that have brought exciting flavours to the area. M.J. Heraghty's, The Bungo and Lobo are three neighbourhood favourites. Queen’s Park on your doorstep, and there's always some fantastic community initiatives that go on such as Window Wanderland, Bungo at the Bells and Bungo in the Back Lanes which is organised by The Strathbungo Society. One of the main landmarks in the area is the former home of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson at 1 Moray Place which is considered to be one of his finest works.
12. Kelvinbridge
Kelvinbridge is class. Simple as that. Inn Deep is our favourite summer spot, grab a pint and sit by the River Kelvin. You've got direct access to the rest of the city through the subway, and Great Western Road is simply the most beautiful stretch of road in the city as well, particularly at sundown. Saffron serves up authentic Persian food, nearby there's Eusebi's, one of the best Italian delis in the city. Cail Bruich, Brett, Non Viet, Cottonrake, Naked Soup and Òran Mór are neighbourhood highlights.
