Back to school as show home opens at Kirkintilloch development
PANACEA homes has opened a new show home on the site of the former St Agatha’s Primary in Kirkintilloch.
The Primary development comprises reconversion of the school, whilst new homes have also been built in what was once the large playground.
The former Gartconner Public School was created by the architectural firm Honeyman & Keppie and built in 1897.
The firm was founded by John Honeyman and John Keppie in 1888, with Charles Rennie Mackintosh joining the practice a year later as a draughtsman and progressing to partner level.
Six homes have been created by the conversion of the original school building itself, the “Auld Schoolhouse” incorporating the various classrooms, headmaster’s office and sports hall, delivering two and three-bedroom homes.
A number of these feature front and rear garden spaces or terraces, with the upper-level apartments benefitting from views of the rolling hills of the Campsies.
Original features have been incorporated such as vaulted ceilings, timber eaves and the use of original stonework, ensuring that respect was paid to the traditional styling of the former school.
There are also a further nine new build homes in the playground, comprising three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes.
Each new home boasts the highest level of energy efficiency, with modern heating and insulation, and also benefit from roof fitted solar panels .
Ross McMillan, from PANACEA homes, said: “At The Primary we have endeavoured to create a stunning and unique development, whilst ensuring respect is paid to the traditional styling of the former much-loved school.
“Our homes are designed to the highest quality standards, with convenience, user friendliness and style in mind.
"Providing quick access to the countryside, but also within easy reach of local amenities and transport links, The Primary is the ideal place for those seeking the perfect balance of quality, convenience, and peaceful living.”
