Fond farewell to much loved Mosshead deputy head

Pupils and staff said a fond farewell to Janice McFarlane who has stepped down from her role at the Bearsden school at Stockiemuir Road.

The school paid tribute to Mrs McFarlane’s “huge contribution over the years, helping to shape it into the excellent school it is”.

Over the years, Mrs McFarlane has been a positive role model to thousands of children and has supported families in her own distinct, welcoming style.

She will be well remembered for competition successes in maths, the rotary club and the Euroquiz.

Her outstanding work leading the pupil council and house captains has sparked many fruitful initiatives and partnerships, including Poppy Scotland, Marie Curie, Children in Need, 
Diabetes UK, East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid, the 
local food bank and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Headteacher Mrs Susan Yeoman said: “Janice has been an asset to Mosshead and has been a fabulous depute head. She will be greatly missed by us all.”

With her passion for local history, Mrs McFarlane had wanted to use the Glasgow underground for a ‘sub-crawl’ city tour to mark her retirement.

The staff social committee were determined not to let the pandemic get in the way and created a covid-friendly version. Each class secretly prepared a virtual subway tour of every station on the “Clockwork Orange”.

Mrs Yeoman said: “We wanted to give Janice the best send-off and know how much this will mean to her.”
