Mearns Castle High’s cluster primaries in creative challenge
This innovative project took place over four days with around 300 P6 pupils took part.
They were organised into groups of 10 and were given a design brief.

Hide AdEach group was assigned a scientific topic to research and use as inspiration for a creative outfit.
Over the first three days, the pupils attended workshops on joining techniques, such as the use of hot-glue guns, the use of sewing machines and how to use hemming web.
They also participated in a workshop on the use of iMovie and a presentation by Mearns Castle High School staff on the design process.
This was partly funded by a grant from SSERC (Scottish Schools Education Research Centre) and cluster funding.

Hide AdThe STEM project lets pupils build their skills in technology, as well as allowing them to develop softer skills, such as working as part of a team, negotiating, working to a deadlines and project management.
Sharon Hunter, headteacher at Mearns Primary School, said: “The children have really enjoyed and loved every aspect of doing this type of collaborative work across the cluster.
“After three days of designing and constructing their amazing outfits, the pupils put on a fashion show for parents and guests to celebrate their achievements on Friday,May 31.
“Each group had prepared a script to explain their design, showed a video showing the process they had gone through and a model showcased their final design on the catwalk.
“Conratulations to everyone who took part.”
