Celtic Connections – The Burns Unit – Old Fruitmarket- Sun 16/01/11

Occasional Scots/Canadian supergroup, The Burns Unit, put their individual careers on hold to get back on the road on Sunday with an excellent concert in the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.

Performing tracks from their album ‘Sideshow’ King Creosote, Emma Pollock, Karine Polwart to name but a few of the star quality line-up, set about treating the audience to a combination of sublime harmonies , well crafted songs, top notch musicianship all woven together by one infectious melody after another.

As this was their first gig for quite a while, one of four they are doing throughout the UK in January, there was the occasional sign of rust. However these were minor glitches in a well received performance.

With quite an number of new songs sprinkled throughout the set it looks likely this occasional combo will be gearing up to release a second album at some point in the future. If it is as good as their first offering it will indeed be something to look forward too
