Celebrating folk greats

The musical duo – who run Riverside Studios in Busby – are taking to the stage at Eastwood Park Theatre this month to showcase the work of some very influential Scottish folk musicians.

The show is McGinn meets Seeger and MacColl, and features the Cameron brothers, Andy Hamilton, Ian Rennie, Gus Simpson and Raymond McGuire.

The McGinn in question is, of course, Matt McGinn – a champion of the 60s folk revival who drew on experiences of Glasgow when penning his own songs.

There’s a dash of Pete Seeger – the American singer who introduced McGinn to audiences across the pond – thrown in as well as British artist Ewan McColl, who brought the two together.

The Cameron brothers explained: “With great songs and tune, we celebrate the music of Matt McGinn, Pete Seeger and Ewan McColl – three artists whose social commentary in song and lyric changed the face of contemporary folk music from the 60s onwards.

“We’d like to keep them singing – and you as well”.

The show goes on tour this year, visiting towns across Scotland before performing at music festivals in Germany – but first, it’s the chance of southsiders to catch the brothers on home turf.

McGinn meets Seeger and MacColl is on at Eastwood Park Theatre on Saturday, February 16, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £9-£13, from 577 4957.
