Horse opens Totally Locally in Lanark

THERE’S nothing like a Local Hero to stand up for a local cause and that’s exactly why cult singer Horse MacDonald made a return to her home town of Lanark on Saturday.

She was the guest of honour, asked to declare open the Totally Locally campaign to persuade Lanarkians that, when it comes to doing their shopping, they should keep their spending power in their home burgh rather than head for the big towns or cities.

By happy coincidence, Horse’s latest album is called ‘Home’ in which some of her songs recall her youth in the Royal Burgh where her dad, Dugald, was a long-serving councillor.

She also treated the crowds to her legendary singing voice with some of the spectators, who remembered her from her Lanark Grammar days, joining in the sing-song.

She said that she was “delighted and honoured” to be invited back home, especially in a cause which her late dad would have supported so ardently.
