William Gall’s work raises Lanimer cash – and laughs
For, even if he wasn’t physically present for the annual celebration, at least one of his hilarious works provided, for many, the highlight of that year’s Lanimer Brochure.
Although he could command large fees for his work from the national press, the annual Gall cartoon in the brochure was his gift to his old home town from 1965 until the year before his death in 2006.

Hide AdNow, several years after his passing, a compilation of his 40 years of Lanimer cartoons is being published to raise money for the celebrations, marking this year’s fiftieth anniversary of the modern form of the Lanimer brochure.
This has been made possible by Willie’s widow Jean granting the Lanimer Committee permission to re-publish her late husband’s work in the book The Willie Gall Cartoons 1965-2005, available from WH Smiths in Lanark High Street at just £4.
