The derelict Kirkintilloch Town Hall will feature in East Dunbartonshire Doors Open Day next month.

While it’s not possible to get into the historic building because of ongoing works, there will be a chance to see photos of inside the hall and learn about its history.

The event on Saturday, September 14, is being led by Kirkintilloch and District Trust. The group is leading plans for the restoration of the hall and will have leaflets highlighting what they are doing.

David Whitton, from the Trust, said: “We did ask if we could get access to the hall, but work has started on asbestos clearing and after that they are taking out the dry rot.

“The event is to show the hall has not been forgotten and things are moving ahead now.”

The Town Hall event takes place at Regent Gardens from 10am to 4pm.

A number of buildings throughout Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and surrounding area will be open during Doors Open Day, including the Old Bath House, Caurnie Soaperie, The Fort Theatre, Brackenbrae House and Campsie Memorial Hall.
