Appeal launched to help youngster and others

Kind-hearted people are being urged to back a fundraising appeal by a charity that has given a grateful family and their son vital support.

Little Gabriel McBryan is due to receive a specialist buggy worth £3,300 from Caudwell Children, but the charity urgently needs help.

Four-year-old Gabriel, from Kirkintilloch, has cerebral palsy, a condition which decreases his independent mobility and means he continually requires specialist supportive seating.

Without the donation Gabriel’s parents, Mary and Mark, who have another son Callum (6) and another baby on the way, say they wouldn’t have the ability to do day-to-day things like the school run.

However, Caudwell Children say more funds are desperately needed for disabled youngsters like Gabriel and are urgently appealing to get more help.

Mary said: “Having this buggy will help us maintain some normality in our lives when the new baby arrives. It would be impossible otherwise as Gabriel can’t use a generic tandem buggy due to his additional needs.

“The cost of this piece of equipment, like many other items for disabled children, is six times the amount you would pay normally, making it impossible to afford without the help of charities like Caudwell Children.”

Trudi Beswick, chief executive of Caudwell Children, said: “We are appealing for kind-hearted members of the public who may be able to fundraise or donate to Caudwell Children and help local families like Gabriel’s.

“Because equipment like this is not available on the NHS, Caudwell Children is a lifeline for families caring for a disabled child.”
