Autumn boost for businesses

East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson has said that the UK Government’s Autumn Statement will come as a real boost for local families and businesses, with more than two million Scots set to benefit from another cut to income tax.

The Lib Dem MP reacted this week to news that the Scottish Government will receive additional funding of £238m as a result of spending decisions taken by the coalition UK Government. £25 million of this total is ring-fenced for the Glasgow City Deal and restoration work on the Glasgow School of Art.

Ms Swinson welcomed the announcement of a big new increase to the personal tax allowance, taking 38,000 Scottish people out of tax altogether, and the extension of schemes offering businesses a £2000 cut to National Insurance.
