East Dunbartonshire’s recent Big Fit Walk events were part of a national effort involving around 200 half hour fitness walks.
Residents joined employees from the Council, NHS, the Leisure and Culture Trust and Ceartas Advocacy in putting their best foot forward and organising their own 30 minute walks. Local short walks take place weekly throughout East Dunbartonshire.
Scott Hill, Chair of EDLC Trust, said: “It was great to hear that so many people joined in the fun of The Big Fit Walk. I hope the event has encouraged people to walk more often and keep active by taking part in some of the well-established Health Walks that take place in East Dunbartonshire.”
Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, added: “The Health Walks are a great way of showing off the wonderful scenery we have in East Dunbartonshire while introducing people to walking routes and paths they might not know about.
“They are a great way of increasing physical activity in a fun and friendly environment, lead by qualified Walk Leaders.”
Paths for All, the Scottish charity behind the national event hope the Big Fit Walks inspire communities across Scotland to come together for a walk to celebrate the benefits of being active.
Ian Findlay, Chief Officer of Paths for All said, “The Big Fit Walk, has grown year on year and we were delighted to have over 200 walks happening in June.
“Walking is the easiest, cheapest and simplest way for everyone to get the 30 minutes of every day physical activity they need to stay healthy. The walks show people how easy and enjoyable it can be to get active and take people to brilliant places to walk in their local neighbourhoods, such as East Dunbartonshire.”
