Branch out after the fun is over and help the environment

Be a Christmas star and
recycle your tree and cards - that’s the message to green-minded residents.

Some 680,000 Christmas trees are bought each year in Scotland and most are thrown away, generating 13,000 tonnes of extra waste.

Last year East Dunbartonshire collected over 36 tonnes of Christmas trees for recycling.

From January 5-18, you can dispose of your tree in a skip at various locations. These include West Carlston Garden Centre in Torrance; Homebase in Milngavie; William Patrick Library car park, Kirkintilloch and Mavis Valley Recycling Centre in Bishopbriggs.

Maureen McColl, the council’s waste services team leader, said: “Real Christmas trees are lovely, but it’s important to recycle them when the festivities are all over.

“If you’re not able to take it to one of the recycling points, just call the Customer Services Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510 and they will arrange to uplift it.”
