Carluke woman hits out over her brother’s treatment at Wishaw General

Concerned Azia Munir, from Carluke, contacted the Gazette after her brother Adnaan, who suffers from Down’s Syndrome, was discharged from the hospital even though he had suffered a number of seizures.

The problem was potentially life threatening as in 2005 Adnaan had been fitted with a shunt in the right side of his brain – the device stops fluid building up around the brain and drains it.

Since his discharge from the hospital, the 14-year-old has been treated successfully at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

But that has done nothing to reduce the anger Azia (30) and her family feel towards Wishaw General Hospital and its staff.

Azia said: “My brother began having seizures last year and we took him to the Southern General in Glasgow; the doctors put him on medication.

“About four weeks ago, he began having body jerks and these got so bad that last Monday my mum and brother took him to Wishaw General.

“The doctors did keep him in overnight but the only test he had was a urine test.

“One of the nurses actually saw him take a fit but they still discharged him the next day.

“When we left hospital, he continued to have seizures so I took him straight to Yorkhill.”
